Woodstock: R.I.P.

Earlier this evening, my wife was watching Woodstock: Three Days That Defined a Generation on PBS. I have always been fascinated by that festival and sad that I could not attend it. Of course, I sat down and started watching with her. About ten minutes into the show, some guy started talking about the number of bare breasts that he saw. And then, the pictures came on – visually censored. This was so sad that I told my wife that I couldn’t watch that censored shit. She told me it was PBS, of course, it was censored and if I wanted X rated images I should look for them on the web. It is so sad that she did not understand my point. Breasts or any other parts of the human anatomy cannot be forbidden by any government with any kind of imaginary morality.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of that monumental festival. There was going to be a major celebration commemorating that. The venue canceled, the producers quit and the management or whomever just left. After seeing that ridiculous 10 minutes of a fake documentary, I have to ask this question: Is it a coincidence? 50 years after a president who was impeached, we are steered by another one who should be.

I reside in New York State, a state that seems to be opposed to the current leadership. I do not subscribe to conspiracy theories, but I have to ask myself, how much freedom does this state allow its citizens. I mean even Texas has a nude beach. Texas? What happened to New York the proclaimed bastion of freedom and human rights? Or for that matter of fact New Hampshire: Live Free or Die?

I have admired the hippies for the changes they tried to make in our society. I thought that they have made some kind of impact. It is so sad to realize that I was wrong. I wish I had the courage to walk out of my house tomorrow morning wearing nothing but a frown. Sadly, I do not – R.I.P. – old hippy in me.

No More Day’s Inn

Last week I went to visit some friends in Lawrenceville GA. 10 days earlier I made a reservation at some fleabag hotel. When I got there at 10:30 pm on the appointed day, they gave me a smoking room which was totally unacceptable. Sat in the car with my phone and fired up booking.com. No problem- found a room at a Day’s Inn 2 minutes away.

Chop This!

My wife likes this show. Sometimes I sit and watch with her and I get swept into the excitement of the competition. It took me a while to figure out that I would really hate to taste any of their dishes. Here are some people who are supposed to be great chefs. What they want the competitors to do is create amazing (according to them) dishes. Continue reading

Caramel Coloring (E150 in the EU) Is a Fraud!

I have spent the last two hours trying to find out if the brandy I like has any additives. I couldn’t find the answer. In the process, I found out that most of the cognacs that I enjoy, when I can afford them, have caramel color in them. It makes them look older, so the manufacturers can charge more money for them. Sadly, I also found out that some of my favorite single malt Scotch whiskeys have the same flaw. I am not allergic to whatever they add, but I try to live a pure life, as much as possible. I am talking about food and drink here not morality. I wish to avoid as much as possible, the introduction of any kind of chemicals made in a laboratory into my body. That includes aspirin, cocaine, caramel color, propylene glycol, high fructose corn syrup and so on. Sadly, I couldn’t find quick answers to my inquiries. On top of that, I also found that some brands of vodka have propylene glycol in them. I usually have a bottle of Polish Wodka Luksusowa in the house. I think that the purest vodka is made from potatoes and I hope this one is actually pure. I found their website and I sent them an inquiry.

Back to my Cognac or I should rather say my Brandy. Brandy is an umbrella name for many beverages of which Cognac is the most expensive. At this point I’d like to say that I am quite done with Cognac. I found a few that do not add caramel color though now I am not sure if they add anything else. Also, they are not found in my neighborhood, so I will skip them.  I will contact some Armagnac distilleries and asked them those questions. I really appreciate a good Armagnac and would love to find out which ones are pure.

There might be some good news in this cesspool of additives. I am not very fond of the United States FDA nor the TTB which is controlling alcohol and tobacco sales. However, it turns out that the TTB enforces a law about straight whiskey. Straight whiskey, be it bourbon, rye or whatever, cannot contain any additives. There are quite a few really good ones out there. My research has also led me to another law, specifically the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. The parameters of this law are even stricter than the ones about straight whiskey.

To be labeled as bottled-in-bond or bonded, the liquor must be the product of one distillation season (January–June or July–December) and one distiller at one distillery. It must have been aged in a federally bonded warehouse under U.S. government supervision for at least four years and bottled at 100 (U.S.) proof (50% alcohol by volume). The bottled product's label must identify the distillery where it was distilled and, if different, where it was bottled.[2][3] Only spirits produced in the United States may be designated as bonded.

Among the many interesting sounding whiskeys listed there is also a Sacred Bond Brandy from the Heaven Hill Company. I will look for some very soon.

Einstein’s God

Religious people are so gullible. I guess one of them came up with this bogus story and others are propagating it. I assume that none of them had read anything actually written by Einstein. His arguments about the existence of God are not that simple and they are quite ambiguous. But back to this silly video. Continue reading

For more than 3,000 years, Jerusalem has been the capital city of Israel. If you don’t believe me, just check your history books, or Google it or something. As far as I know, no one disputes the fact that King Solomon had built his temple in Jerusalem about 3,000 ago. Continue reading

I try to stay away from political issues as much as I can – so, this is not about that. It is about ignorance. As I said, I try to stay away from political issues and I do not even like football or any other spectator sports. Continue reading

Don’t Let the Yahoos Bring You Down!

YahoosFor the third year in a row I started posting my poems on an April poetry blog. I find inspiration in everything and the things I write are very eclectic. Some of them are also quite erotic, which did not seem to bother anyone in previous years. I am a self-published author and though I have not yet managed to sell many books, I consider that to be quite an achievement anyway. So, this year’s poems went down fabulously – I got complemented by the lady who runs the blog, who is also a published poet with a fine arts degree. It was flattering! Even more than that, I impressed quite a few poets who wrote very positive comments about my poems. Continue reading

urinalsAmsterdam Urinals

These urinals are a common sight in Amsterdam and nobody thinks about them twice. They are of course biased towards women, but I am trying to make a different point. The point is about the mores of different peoples. It is very unlikely that this kind of freedom will be available in the United States in the near and for some states perhaps very distant future. I consider urinals to be a symbol of a male chauvinistically dominated society. But again, let’s just skip over that and get to the point.

The point really is about toilets in public places and the big to-do about transgender people. It is ridiculous to see Obama decree a set of guidelines about it and Trump threating to dismantle them. Continue reading

Pussy, Pussy, Pussy

From Dusk Till Dawn is a funny Quentin Tarantino, Roberto Rodriguez collaboration. Sometime at the beginning of the second half (Rodriguez’s piece) Cheech Marin has a very funny monologue in which he is hawking pussy. Check it out here: Continue reading
